On 1 January 2005, the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY mobilisation was formally launched. This broad coalition of NGOs, trade unions, faith groups, campaigning organisations, student groups and celebrities have come together to demand that rich countries increase aid and make it work better for poor people, cancel unpayable poor country debts, and change the rules of world trade so that they favour the interests of the poor.
MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY is undertaking joint actions and mobilisation at key times during the year, urging the government and international decision makers to rise to the challenge of 2005 and calling for urgent and meaningful policy change on the the three critical and inextricably linked areas of trade, debt and aid. The coalition is part of a worldwide movement, the Global Call to Action Against Poverty.
Although this campaign is based in the UK, it's important everyone all over the world gets involved. That's why I've set this up as a TIG project, and I'd love you all to get involved. There will be plenty of things to get involved in and we can help to lobby governments to make key policy changes. So what are you waiting for? Join!!!
