Today the New Zealand Parliament voted 65-55 to allow Civil Unions. The Civil Union Bill provides those who do not want to have a marriage ceremony but who do want to register their togetherness to have a 'civil union'.
It also, and this is the really amazing part, provides those in same-sex relationships with the opportunity to register their relationship. Although the government (by which I mean the Labour party) believe that this Bill is not allowing 'same-sex marriage', many believe it to be same-sex marriage dressed up as something else (like the wolf in Red Riding Hood, dressed like the sweet granny).
Truely an interesting step in New Zealand history!
